Engage: Taking Action Against Racism

June 4, 2020

Today we face two grave epidemics; systemic racism and the ongoing toll of Covid-19 -- both are deeply intertwined. We don't have to have all of the answers but we must continue seeking solutions. Through our network we have a unique platform to share and learn valuable lessons with other leaders of change to create real, lasting local impact.

We invite you to engage in conversations that will deepen our awareness of how to co-create a more equitable region. Our next three Frontline Conversations will focus on race, anti-racism, and community healing. Let's activate meaningful change and increase our impact as compassionate leaders. We need you with us.

Hear a prolific voice for justice

As millions mourn COVID-19 losses and call for an end to institutional racism -- leaders from all faiths are a lifeline for those seeking reprieve and a real way forward. Rev. Dr. Howard-John Wesley ('15) is the Senior Pastor of the historic Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria. His sermon, “When the Verdict Hurts,” was acknowledged in Time magazine as one of the best sermons preached in the United States following the “not guilty” verdict in the State of Florida v. George Zimmerman. Join us for Frontline Conversations this Friday to hear from a prolific voice for justice in our generation.

Sharing, building and wielding power for racial justice

How can we best devise solutions for the realities of this crisis through the lens of racial equity? Let's learn ways to become more effective anti-racist leaders to help move our region to a better future and enable long-lasting systemic change. We will explore ways to advance our collective impact through listening, learning, collaboration and amplification. Hanh Le ('20) is Executive Director of the Weissberg Foundation, working to advance organizations and efforts building the power of those most negatively impacted by racism.
