LGW CELEBRATES NATIONAL MENTORING MONTH WITH FLASH MENTORING

March 16, 2017

For leaders everywhere, but especially in this region, mentoring is a crucial vehicle through which seasoned and rising professionals move forward. Through mentoring, individuals across all sectors and industries find ways to share valuable insight, advance in the workplace, and give back to the community.

To honor the importance of mentoring during National Mentoring Month, LGW presented our members with our second annual Flash Mentoring session, held in partnership with experts from Twomentor, LLC and MentorPrize at LGW’s offices in Downtown Washington.

Julie Kantor (’00), President & CEO of Twomentor, LLC and Co-Leader for the LGW Signature Program Class of 2017, opened the session with an interactive discussion on the importance of structured mentoring programs in the workplace by highlighting their value to overall team engagement and improving employee retention.

“Mentoring happens informally and formally, within a company and out in the neighborhoods of a community. It makes the world a little more human and a bit smaller; more personal.”

Following her overview, our guests paired up to practice both sides of the mentoring equation – as a mentor and mentee – in the effort to understand the value offered to both participants for more efficient mentoring outcomes.

“The mentee should really drive the mentoring relationship, in relation to specific and achievable goals for the mentorship.”

LGW then welcomed Deb Boedicker to present to our audience opportunities to mentor in the region through MentorPrize, an organization that matches volunteers with high demands for mentors in our region. Boedicker serves MentorPrize as Chair for its Board of Directors.
