Joe Gardemal is a Managing Director in the Washington, DC office of Alvarez & Marsal, an international business consulting firm with 53 offices in 18 countries around the world. Mr. Gardemal leads a team of Certified Public Accountants and finance experts who conduct forensic accounting investigations and perform damages analysis with a focus on action and results.
Every year, LGW welcomes some of the region's most promising high school sophomores and juniors for Youth Leadership Greater Washington (YLGW), a six-month learning experience focused on leadership topics and exploring community issues. As we get ready to recruit the next generation of leaders, YLGW Class of 2017 alum and Centerville High School senior Rithika, looks back on her time in YLGW and shares her thoughts and advice for future YLGW participants.

What an exciting year it has been! This past Wednesday, June 28th, Leadership Greater Washington (LGW) held its Annual Meeting of the Membership It was great to see so many members in attendance. Congratulations to all the new Board members who were elected, and thank you to all the Board members who after years of service have rolled off the Board. For those who were not able to attend, I want to share with you the LGW Strategic Plan highlights that were presented at the meeting.
LGW’s latest Community Service Day focused on the effects of homelessness and what members can do to help support communities facing this crisis.
In June, LGW’s Class of 2017 met for the official closing retreat of the Signature Program, at the historic Airlie Center in Warrenton, VA. The retreat was a great opportunity for our 62 influential leaders to celebrate and reflect on a year of leadership and learning.
On June 2, the YLGW Class of 2017 celebrated their graduation from LGW’s Youth Leadership Program. Over the course of six months, 33 high school students from diverse backgrounds and schools—throughout the Greater Washington region— participated in a series of interactive programming, designed to cultivate leadership skills and develop confidence.
Fredric Walls, II, is a Senior Investment Manager for the Foundations and Endowments Specialty Practice at SunTrust Bank. As an Investment Manager, Fred is responsible for investment management and advisory services, including asset allocation, day-to-day portfolio monitoring, investment and spending policy development and review, and strategic consulting for nonprofit organizations.
